Weaponized Narratives and Donald Trump

There is a meme, a funny one, of Dr. Anthony Fauci trying to hold it together after Trump introduces Mike Pompeo as the head of the "Deep State Department". Apart from this being another sin that Trump supporters will ignore, this is no laughing matter. The President of the United States said it and he was serious. He wasn't joking. And this shows just how much Donald Trump hates our institutions.

Republican far-righters have made a religion of painting the good things of our government bad and re-framing the bad things in our society as good. "Deplorable" is now a compliment for the radicals in the GOP. George Soros, a billionaire who is a proponent of Democracy and educating he poor, is painted as a sly James Bond-level villain who will eventually bring about the end of the western world. And even though these labels they put on Soros don't even match up with the work he has done, the labels satisfy the desired "truth" of the far-right.

That Trump would stand there and slander the name of a Department responsible for international relations in front of the nation is irresponsible and revealing. That even the mainstream media didn't see the statement worthy of more investigation is even sadder. Donald Trump called the state department The Deep State Department and wasn't held accountable. And by not holding him accountable, that statement made it into the wild and was absorbed by his supporters and anti-government conspiracy theorists and deemed true. And those conspiracy theorists will latch on and feel that the President's pronouncement is a call to arms. Donald Trump is a very dangerous communicator and a very dangerous man. If the Media is going to let him make insidious accusations without challenge, it is time to not even give him air time. The system has failed us. We have allowed a wrecking ball who lost the popular vote to take office and redesign the government to favor business interests and abuses of power, The adults in the room may have wanted to protect us but by placating the big baby instead of disciplining him, they have made him more powerful, so powerful that he had the adults in the room removed. And now, here we are facing a pandemic while the president and those in his administration are forming a plan to deal with this crisis that will greatly profit President Trump, Jared Kushner and the friends who have memberships to Mar-a-Lago. And this is all being done with impunity. The Senate had an opportunity to hold Donald Trump accountable but chose to help strengthen Trump’s reality bubble and Weaponize his deep state story. By the way, the Deep State tends to be anyone who does not agree with the president’s bad behavior. The only way to fix this is to vote like our democracy depends on it.
